So Reese can be quite the crack up. She is definitely silly and likes to joke and laugh. She says funny things all the time. I wanted to write a few down so I always remember them. The first is an email from her teacher that I got a few months ago. I am just copying and pasting the email because it is to darn funny to put in my own words.
this is the email.....
Also, I've been wanting to ask you about a story Reese told us. I am not sure if it is her creative imagination or an actual event. She said that she went hunting with Troy and he killed an animal (can't remember right now for sure but i believe she said it was a bear...hard to believe, thus I'm checking with you). And that when Troy was gutting it Reese was able to reach inside and feel the heart. I asked her, "What did your mommy say?" She said that mommy said, "Oh, what a beautiful heart!" :) Just wondering if she has been helping to gut Troy's game or if she was being very creative with her story telling. Either way is fine, it just helps me to know how to guide the conversation. Any other facts surrounding the story would help me in helping her as she shares the stories. Thanks!
I seriously just about died laughing when I got this email. Obviously it isn't true and it is an opportunity to talk to Reese about telling the truth and not lying, but I am pretty sure she just thought she was telling a really good story. I am almost positive that she got the idea after watching Troy playing a hunting game on the Xbox. I know parents of the year award.
The other story is another email that I got from her teacher the week before Easter. Apparently when talking about Easter Egg hunting Reese informed her teacher that Jesus was coming to our house to hide the Easter Eggs. Her teacher asked her if she meant the Easter Bunny but Reese was quite positive that it was Jesus. I think she was confused with dying Easter Eggs, and Christ dying and how that all fit in with Easter and an Easter Bunny. I was just happy that she understands a little bit about why we really celebrate Easter!
Funny stuff I tell ya! Really though we are so proud of her. She has come so far and she is so stinking smart. I wish everyone could see the toddler that was profoundly deaf until she was 21 months old and see the almost six year old that NEVER stops talking. Her vocabulary is getting pretty large and she understands most of what we say. Her speech is getting clearer and clearer and sometimes I don't think you would know that she is deaf. Today when we were leaving church she was singing "Choose the Right" and she was amazingly right on tune. Such a miracle.
She has been attending the mainstream kindergarten for close to two months now and she has done so great. She attends the school for the deaf kindergarten in the morning and then after lunch she walks over to the elementary for her afternoon class. She has made friends there and loves being part of the class. She really loves both of her teachers and we have been so happy with her progress. It was not easy to convince her school for the deaf teacher that we wanted her to be mainstreamed in the afternoon. It was actually a little bit of a battle. I finally had to tell them that I know they have doubts about it and don't understand my reasoning but as her mother I could no longer ignore the prompting that this was what we were supposed to do. Reese has proved to them and to us that we made the right decision.
We have decided that next year she will attend our neighborhood elementary. We feel she is ready for it and she is SO excited to go to school with Kenadee. We are still trying to decide if we will have her repeat kindergarten so she can have a full year of kindergarten in the mainstream setting or if she is ready for first grade. I am glad we still have some time before we have to make that decision. Her progress continues daily and we are so lucky that she is ours!
