A couple of weeks ago Reese participated in her second speech fair. It is put on by AG Bell and is a great opportunity to see children with hearing loss singing, dancing, reading poems, and more. It gets me crying every time. The theme was Hawaiian this year so everyone was supposed to come decked out for a Luau. Reese's class sang a song about creatures under the sea. Her part was "the fish in the sea go swim swim swim, swim swim swim, swim swim swim. The fish in the sea go swim swim swim. All through the day." She started right into the swim part. She did such a good job. I loved watching her. We had lots of family there. Both sets of Troy's parents, my parents, Britt's family, Ashley and Tyler's family, and us. It is such a neat experience to see kids younger than Reese up through a high school senior. The kids and what they can do are miracles. The point of the speech fair is to show that children and adults with a hearing loss can listen and speak, and that they can be exactly like their hearing peers. Some of them do so well that you would never know that they are deaf. That is where we are headed with Reese, and she is getting there!
