I thought I would update the latest on Reese. We found out yesterday that our insurance company has approved her surgery to get a cochlear implant. I was so excited to find out because we were hoping to get it done on October 2, but the insurance company wanted her to wear hearing aides for 6 months. The hearing aides do nothing for her and trying to keep them on her is a joke. Her type of deafness is kind of weird and different than others. All the anatomy is correct and everything works, but the timing is off. So if she hears anything (some do and some don't) it is very distorted. The cochlear implant hopefully will put everything in sync, and Reese will be able to hear!!! It has been scheduled for Nov. 2, so as long as everything goes as planned that will be surgery day. That is also our six year anniversary. So Romantic!!! That is all right though, because it is something that we have gone through together and something that has made us stronger. After the surgery we have to wait about four weeks for everything to heal, and then we go back to the doctor and they turn the implant on. They turn the implant on gradually so they don't completely overwhelm them with all the new noise they are hearing, but hopefully she will be hearing something at Christmas time. Anyways that is the latest and I thought my Grandma Hardy would like to know since she reads my blog every day. Love you grandma!
